New Racers

Cooper Camp

Our first event of the year, Cooper Camp, is a fun and exciting way for novice and experienced ski racers to get aquainted and begin the season. Children will be grouped according to skill first, then age. We want to make sure the athletes ski as similar as possible.

WEATHER/CLOTHING:

Please be prepared for changeable weather conditions, so please check the weather updates for the latest conditions and bring extra clothing just in case. It’s always a good idea to bring an extra hat, gloves/mittens, neck gaiter and socks. Due to unpredictable weather conditions, an extra rainproof coat is also a good idea.

LUNCH/SNACKS:

Please provide a nutritious lunch and snack for your child. The snacks should be something that can be carried with the child, like an energy bar or a fruit snack (one for the morning and one for the afternoon).

SCHEDULE:

Please be on time. plan to have your child ready at the meeting area at 8:45 and please pick up your child at 3:00. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay at Cooper Spur throughout the day. Please check with your coach regarding joining your group and helping younger skiers.

Throughout the Season

After Cooper Camp, children will continue to ski with athletes of similar skills on training week-ends. On race days, we regroup the athletes by age due to race start orders. We do this to have all the same ages grouped together, otherwise the athletes stand too long waiting for race starts. This is only applicable on race days and on training days the athletes ski with their regular coach.

Please check with your individual coach regarding helping younger skiers, meeting times and other recommendations. We greatly appreciate the help all of you give us with the younger athletes. During Cooper Camp and the rest of the season we encourage parents to help with the younger athletes who may need assistance loading the lift.
